Professor Dr. Rainer Baumgart
Professor Dr. Rainer Baumgart graduated from Technical University of Munich in 1981 with MS in Engineering and School of Medicine, Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich in 1985 with MD degree.
His main clinical and research interests are clinical applications of Ilizarov techniques for leg lengthening and reconstruction especially with motorized distraction devices. He mainly developed a fully implantable, programmable distraction nail (Fitbone) for limb lengthening and deformity correction and a new minimal invasive operation technique, which offers the highest standard in the world. With more than 300 operations of this device he is the most experienced surgeon in this field.
He gave more than 200 lectures at international congresses and published about 80 articles including 8 book chapters.
He is the vice-president of the German-ASAMI and member of many important societies. Professor Baumgart is a world famous specialist for intramedullary lengthening. Currently he is the leading director of the Limb Lengthening Center Munich and Professor at the University of Munich.
